Admission & Graduation Requirements

Enrolling your student in MECS can help them build a foundational love of learning and set them on the path toward future success. By enrolling in our high school program, students will thrive in the flexible learning environment that allows them to learn at their own pace.

Admission Requirements for Grades 9–12

Students Enrolling in MECS High School Program

Students must be able to provide proof of completing the eighth grade. For students who cannot produce documentation for academic admissions to the ninth grade (e.g., prior homeschool students), the following guidelines apply:

  1. If a student is 14 years or older, the student is considered "age appropriate" for ninth grade and may enroll in MECS' High School Program using a birth certificate or other official documentation as proof.

  2.  If a student is under 14 years of age, the student must show proof of eighth-grade completion through one of the following methods:

  3. A middle school grade report or transcript

  4. A certificate of eighth grade completion

  5. Standardized test scores showing eighth grade achievement or higher (MECS recommends the NYSED Math and ELA Assessments)

  6. A homeschool portfolio

Students and their families can speak with a counselor to address other circumstances.

Students must take a Motivational Appraisal of Personal Potential (MAPP) Test. This assessment test is the fastest way to identify students’ career direction, learning style and motivation.

We require students to develop a four-year Career Plan and take courses that provide the best foundation for their post-graduation plan, whether college or career.
