Recruitment Outreach
The Minority Enterprise Career Schools (MECS) will provide outreach, time, and information to parents and expand its high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) program to establish new schools in each of the five NYC GEOG DISTRICTS.¹
MECS Academy will target the Black/African American² and Hispanic/Latino³ students enrolled in the K-12 New York City Schools who are economically disadvantaged⁴ to receive an Education Freedom & Opportunity Scholarship to attend MECS Academies, to ensure parents can exercise a meaningful choice of direct student services for their children’s education, and allow parents — rather than the government — to choose the best educational setting for their children.
MECS will also provide outreach, time, and information to parents of the ~44,400 waitlisted (~68,000 Charter School⁵ applicants for the roughly 23,600 seats), economically disadvantaged Public High School students whose names were not drawn for a seat in the April 1 or May 1, 2024 NYC Charter School Lotteries and are placed on a waiting list to be contacted as seats become available.

UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
ISSUES EQUITABLE SERVICE SCHOOL CHOICE GUIDANCE
March 31, 2025
Dear Chief State School Officer:
“As you are all aware, President Trump nominated me to take the lead on one of his most momentous campaign promises to families. My vision is aligned with the President’s: to send education back to the states and empower all parents to choose an excellent education for their children. As a mother and grandmother, I know there is nobody more qualified than a parent to make educational decisions for their children.”
“These are our convictions:
-
Parents are the primary decision makers in their children’s education.
-
Taxpayer-funded education should refocus on meaningful learning in math, reading, science, and history—not divisive DEI programs and gender ideology.
-
Postsecondary education should be a path to a well-paying career aligned with workforce needs.”
Sincerely,
Linda McMahon
Secretary of Education
