My Letter to President Donald J. Trump
Dear President Donald J. Trump, Thursday, October 9, 2025
First, Kudos on your Peace Deal between Israel and Hamas. This accomplishment will surely cement your Presidency as the G.O.A.T.
I am writing to ask for your assistance for my educational enterprise, the Minority Enterprise Career Schools, a New York State–accredited nonpublic secondary school, grades 9 through 12, Chartered by the Board of Regents of The University of the State of New York, for and on behalf of the State Education Department.
I founded the Minority Enterprise Career Schools in Brooklyn on September 23, 1983 pursuant to President Richard M. Nixon’s Executive Order 11458—Prescribing Arrangements for Developing and Coordinating a National Program For Minority Business Enterprise on March 05, 1969. MECS’ target population consists of the 6,331 or 93% Black or African American and Hispanic or Latino economically disadvantaged, underserved K-12 students enrolled in the NYC GEOG DISTRICT #23 — BROOKLYN.

The Minority Enterprise Career Schools is soliciting a discretionary Grant for Economically Disadvantaged Students from the U.S. Secretary of the Department of Education to purchase 402 Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn for use as its new citywide campus. The property consists of a 16,720 SF lot improved by a 3-story 57,840 SF block through building. The Property sits on the block cap of Eastern Parkway, Bedford Avenue and Union Street and boasts 72’ of frontage on Eastern Parkway along with 189’ of frontage on Bedford Avenue and 109’ of frontage on Union Street. The property is located right next to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and the Brooklyn Museum and also steps away from the Franklin Avenue—Medgar Evers College subway station serviced by the 2 3 4 & 5 trains.
As CEO of the Minority Enterprise Career Schools, I was appointed by Secretary of Education William J. Bennett as one of twelve members to the National Center for Research in Vocational Education’s Advisory Committee at The Ohio State University. The Advisory Committee is a provision under the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Education Act of 1984. The U.S. Secretary of Education appoints individuals who are recognized nationally as experts in vocational education administration and research. Their purpose as a committee is to advise the National Center concerning vocational education research and development activities of national significance.

Inspired by your Executive Order 14191 — Expanding Educational Freedom and Opportunity for Families — Dated January 29, 2025 directing Education Secretary, Linda McMahon to issue Guidance on Supporting State-based K-12 Educational Choice, by allowing states to provide funds under ESEA section 10003A to LEAs for direct student services that allow parents to exercise a meaningful choice in their child’s education is a major breakthrough for Private Schools. The Minority Enterprise Career Schools will expand its Career and Technical Education Academy program to establish 15 new schools in NYC GEOG DISTRICTS #16, #17, #18, #19, and #21— BROOKLYN that has a target population of 74,606 or 86% economically disadvantaged, underserved K-12 Black or African American and Hispanic or Latino students. It will be based on the Success Academy model, that has 55 K-12 schools throughout New York City, headed by its CEO and President, former New York City Council Member, Eva Moskowitz.
The Minority Enterprise Career Schools (MECS) Academy received the 2025 National School Choice Week Leadership Award in recognition of its dedication to inspiring and motivating students to reach their fullest potential and its participation in National School Choice Week since 2016.
